Alejandro Garnacho reveals 'sweetest moment' in Man Utd breakthrough

Alejandro Garnacho has reflected on his breakthrough at Manchester United after he won the club’s player of the month award for November.

The 18-year-old Argentinian has had a brilliant few weeks for the Red Devils as he broke into the first team and scored at Real Sociedad and Fulham. It’s been a rapid raise for a player who only made his senior debut against Sheriff Tiraspol at the end of October, but one he is certainly appreciating.

“It’s an honour for me, being able to be named Player of the Month for this last month,” Garnacho told Man Utd’s official website.

“It has been a fantastic one for me. I’m very happy now and the main thing is, apart from individual awards, to also win prizes as a group.”

Speaking about his debut, he added: “We usually get told the starting XI the day before the game.

“When I saw that I was in the team, I was a little bit nervous to tell you the truth, because it was the first time I’d started the game as first choice in front of all our supporters at Old Trafford.

“So the first thing I did was to go back home and tell all the family. They could hardly believe it and we were all very happy.”

It was Garnacho who sent Man Utd into the World Cup break on a high after his dramatic late winner in the Premier League at Fulham.

He, though, says the goal against Real Sociedad in the Europa league meant more to him, even if it was ultimately not enough to win Man Utd the group.

“I think I’d have to say it’s the sweetest moment of my life so far really,” he said. “My first goal as a full professional.

“My family and my friends and everyone were there to see me, and it was a really good goal. And I was very happy and proud of being able to get on the scoresheet wearing this shirt.”
