The academy will be reorganised when Kershaw retires at the end of next season and McClair has already been earmarked for the job.

United Chief Executive David Gill said: "I am delighted Brian has taken the chance to lead the Academy. Discovering new talent has always been a priority for Manchester United. Brian has a long and successful association with the Club and he will bring great enthusiasm and drive to the job.
"Les has been a fine manager and has overseen the youth system at a time of great change. His ability and knowledge have been huge assets for us and he will be sorely missed when he finally retires in July 2006, for his work and his infectious character."
Other changes at the Academy include:
• Paul McGuinness will become the Assistant Academy Manager for 17-21 year olds with specific responsibility for coaching the U18 and Youth Team.
• Tony Whelan is to be the Assistant Academy Manager for 9-16 year olds and the Head Coach for the U11 and U12.
• Mark Dempsey will be the Head Coach for the U13 to U16.
• Eamon Mulvey will be the Head Coach for the U9 and U10.
• Eric Harrison has retired as a consultant to the schoolboy section of the Academy.
• Francisco Filho will leave the Academy at the end of his current contract.
