Promising young United striker Kenny Cooper has gone on loan to Academica in Portugal.

Fergie on Forlan:

"It is difficult to spend two-and-a-half years on the bench and Diego became frustrated. It is understandable. But the more frustrated he becomes, the less important he becomes to us.

“With his contract up in two years, we have done the right thing.”


Fergie on the Figo-to-United rumours yesterday:

“He (Figo) did well in training this morning, I must say. Who wrote that one? I wish he was.”

Figo is reportedly set to sign for Spurs today on a free transfer with Madrid paying up to a third of his £6m annual wages. Tottenham's sporting director Frank Arnesen flying to the Spanish capital yesterday to hold talks with Figo and his representative Luis Vicente.


Elsewhere:

Andy D'Urso has been replaced for Manchester United and Everton's Bank Holiday Monday clash. Dermot Gallagher will take over at Old Trafford as his Essex colleague faces a Football Association charge.

D'Urso yellow-carded Blackburn midfielder Barry Ferguson twice in the defeat by Southampton but failed to send him off.

The official mentioned his mistake in his report but the FA have charged him with "less than proficiently applying the laws of the game".
